What is SEO?

SEO is an acronym of Search Engine Optimization. It is the process of boosting visibility of your website or your web page on the internet by the help of search engines. The results that search engines naturally show are called unpaid or organic results. The very same ones that appear on the screen as soon as the user types the word on the search bar. These results are thus named because you are not paying money to the search engine to display your website’s result to users.

How then are these results being shown to the users, you ask? What is it that would set your results apart, ranking yours above the competition? You will discover the answers to these questions and more in the coming articles.

content Considering that almost every business today has an online presence, it goes without saying that a business that invests more into their website to create quality relevant content will sore above the rest. search engine optimization For business owners today, an online presence is a must-have. But that's just the start. Once you've built your website, customers have to be able to find you. So what do you do to make sure your website isn't buried in search engine results? SEO, or Search Engine Optimization, is a great place to start. It is important to remember that Google uses a set of rules to make sure that pages are ranked fairly. If you follow the rules, Google will reward you. Great! But, if you try to manipulate or bend the rules, Google will punish you. Not great. So the best thing to do, particularly if you're new to the world of SEO, is keep your strategy simple. Let your website gain relevance and reputation, which is important to Google when it comes to ranking your page, before you employ more advanced SEO strategies.

33.59% Backlinks - Backlinks and Link popularity.

Google looks at three main factors when it comes to backlinks.
  • Quality - Does the text around this link make sense or is there any text around this link at all. Is the link trying to deceive the user, for example a link to a site that sells wrenches in a paragraph about walking dogs would be deemed poor quality and possibly deceptive.
  • Relevance - Is the location of the backlink relative to the link itself. For example a link to a site that sells wrenches on a car mechanic forum would seem relevant or a link to a restaurant's website on a restaurant review post along with a review again would be relevant.
  • Number of Backlinks - How many links are on other websites that point to your website. Remember one poor quality backlink can hurt you more than five great quality backlinks.
A simple way to judge the quality and relevance of a backlink is to ask a simple question. "Is this link helpful to the user viewing this page?" If it is helpful this a good backlink and will increase this score. If its not helpful this backlink should be removed as it is probably hurting your search engine ranking.
